Candlesticks
It would make a lot of sense to make candlesticks in a mould, since they are bought in [supposedly matching] pairs, but I enjoy throwing them on the wheel. It's a bit hair-raising,since they tend to go off-centre easily; the trick is to make a board-full [20 or so] and then match up the pairs when they're half-dry. We are taught that God,having completed the creation of the world in six days, has spent his time since then arranging marriages; this is the sort of feeling I try to encourage while sorting out the candlestick pairs, invariably ending up with one that is too long and one too short. I've sold a lot of these over the years, and like to imagine them lighting up all around the world every Friday night.
