Stacked

An active-aggressive gardener left friend Mike from Amuka with piles of substantial branches; he kindly thought of me,and I spent a couple of happy afternoons with my chainsaw reducing the piles to this satisfying stack of firewood with a Summer to dry out before next Winter.
Shabbat Shalom- note the "earthenware vessel" references in this week's Torah reading...

Kiss Fix

A la Japonais: a spot of glue,a dab of gold leaf to make it all better. Wood-fire [and other] pots often get stuck together: we potters call this a kiss and like to celebrate such occurrences- much better than selling it as a second!

Gold Leaf

An amazing material.

Tel Hai Anagama

Our students opened the kiln yesterday [we fired it before Pesach, but have been on holiday since]- Gunn says it's the best firing yet,and she may be right: good results throughout the kiln, minimal mishaps, happy students and some fine pots. I was very pleased with my haul, some of which are here. The top three bud-vases are mixtures of clays based on our French stoneware, the bottom three mixtures based on Coleman porcelain and Meir's anagama recipe.

First Bloom on our Lilac Bush

Inherited from Eugenia, the previous owner; it used to be a tree, has been through some hard times, but seems to be making a comeback this year. By Sunday it will be in full bloom...

One More Firing

Wood fire, updraught, low temperature- burning our chametz this morning- happy and ( where relevant) kosher Pesach!

Hot

Hot from the kiln this morning- the next generation of Kabbala cups: some designs from the first two runs, some new & more adventurous. I used to cut-&- paste the "blah" version by special request, but we decided that the world is ready for it...I'm waiting for the bus in Rosh Pina for a day of studio/gallery/museum visits with Tel Hai students...
